stylists, directors, models, photographers, journalists, assistants, designers and more in one space, running around. commotion, confusion and fuss but at the same time perfect organisation. All the part of this well working machine know their job and do it perfectly.
lineup, music, runway
The show is about to finish, The last model step off the runway and the designer steps on it to wave to the applauding crowd. I am already taking the ''ready, set, go'' position, prepering to the next show in some other fashion week location around Milan. No luxurious Mercedes-Benz waiting for me outside. I am a photographer. We run, avoiding traffic, doing our best to arrive early at the next show, marking our territory among the other runway photographers and rushing to the show's backstage to get the real photos of Milan Fashion Week.
The models wearing their own clothes, with no makeup, texting/Instagraming on their Iphones. The show's director is going through things with his staff for the last time. And then- hair and makeup staff are taking control.
Low light, yellow walls, ugly floors and empty cans of energy drinks are my challenge when shooting backstage. On one hand, they all make it much harder to take the perfect shot, but on the other- hi, I wanted reality.
Thats exactly why shooting backstage is my favourite thing to do during fashion week. Its not the well lit lineup that get me all excited. Its the empty cans of energy drinks, half-done makeup models taking seflies, tiered hair brushes and curing irons that make backstage shooting so much fun.
