Kanglei Wang’s AUTISTIC collection portrayed a modern look with an edgy twist. Each garment had buckles and straps to change up the classic moto jacket or overcoat. I admired the reconstructed look with the dark color palette that mainly consisted of blacks, reds, whites, and gunmetal metallic. My favorite look from Wang’s line was the gunmetal metallic leather moto jacket paired with the black strapped trousers.
Yibei Liang’s MEN-TAL-ENT collection portrayed an image with the combination of “mental” and “talent” as Liang described. She was inspired by a 1926 Japanese avant-garde film which showed through her collection of the Japanese inspired kimono silhouettes. Her modern day twist of the japanese kimonos included bright colors such as yellows and pinks with traditional floral prints. My favorite look from Yibei Liang’s collection was the yellow midi skirt that was paired with a white kimono inspired top with pink traditional floral print details and yellow ties at the sides.
Gyanendu Baruah’s NOCTURNAL LOVE collection portrayed two stories; “a representation of the protagonist and her own world, and the second part being the manifestation of the antagonist,” as Baruah said. Baruah’s pieces were inspired by Romanian traditional costumes and have strong mythological references such as, Dante’s Inferno. In the collection you will see a variety of unique and modern dresses, jumpsuits, and tops that have corset silhouettes with eyelet cut outs all along the garments. My favorite look was the black backless halter top that was paired with black high waisted culottes and a red oversized bag. Giorgia Rosano’s NEW HOBO collection portrayed a style that requires minimal effort whilst still showing Milano’s street style aesthetic. Rosano’s collections consisted of an edgy look with dark tones and heavy metallic statement pieces to resemble the dark city of Milano that sparkles at night. My favorite look was the rose gold metallic cropped jumpsuit that was paired with a doubled layered kimono style black overcoat.
Tritti Tarkulwarnont’s HAND ME DOWN collection started from the idea of collecting and deconstructing second-hand clothes from flea markets in Milano. She was inspired by “the possibility of deconstructing and reconstructing dissimilar garments into new, coherent pieces,” said Tritti Tarkulwarnont. In her garments, you will see a bold color palette that consisted of red and blacks with statement overcoats and dresses. In this collection, there are a lot of silver ring detailing along the garments as well as the use of patent leather. My favorite look from this collection is the one shoulder vertical striped black and red fringed dress that had a combination of lace, floral prints, and patent leather details. The dress was also paired with an exaggerated cropped black moto jacket that had silver ring detailing all around the jacket. Adireg Comenol’s IMPERFECTION ROSE collection was a “mash-up between Dada arts, punk, and goth attitude.” Comenol’s collection showed a black and white rose print pattern in most of his garments which added a touch of punkiness to his collection. There was a red moto leather jacket in specific that reminded me of Balenciaga’s oversized and off the shoulder red leather moto jacket. Comenol’s take on the oversized red moto jacket also included broad shoulders and a cropped hem. My favorite look from Comenol’s collection would be the red oversized/cropped leather moto leather jacket that was paired with a pair of white distressed jeans.
