MKDT Studio’s Spring/Summer 2026 show, Echoes of the Known, felt less like a runway and more like a conversation conducted across time, materials, and makers. Rather than leaning on spectacle, the collection celebrated craft as a living, evolving practice, revealing how collaboration can shape both objects and ideas.
Creative director Caroline Engelgaar has long positioned MKDT Studio at the intersection of tradition and experimentation. For SS26, she extended this philosophy beyond design into the very making of each piece. A signature belt, co-created with Danish leather atelier Dahlman1807, exemplified this approach: centuries-old techniques meeting a contemporary vision. Similarly, Parisian shoemaker Calla reinterpreted the studio’s own fabric remnants into babouches, proving that sustainability and artistry can overlap seamlessly.
The accessories were not mere adornments but extensions of the garments’ narrative. AGMES jewellery, handmade to order in New York, lent quiet precision, while Paloceras eyewear, sculpted with a mythic sensibility, emphasized the thoughtful detail embedded in every choice. Each collaboration underscored a belief in craft as a conversation, where one maker passes knowledge, inspiration, and material to the next.
This focus on process was mirrored in the clothing itself. Skewed proportions, raw edges, and unfinished seams hinted at the human hand, refusing the impersonal perfection of mass production. Colours are muted lavender greys, sage greens, and chiffon yellows, acted as subtle accents, highlighting the interplay between material, technique, and intuition. Classic weaves were layered and fractured, shredded ramie sculpted into new forms, and traditional tailoring codes were gently unraveled, all in service of a tactile, almost intimate storytelling.
Ultimately, Echoes of the Known was less about a fashion statement and more about a philosophy: that clothing is a site where craft, collaboration, and human ingenuity intersect. MKDT Studio’s SS26 collection reminded Copenhagen that the future of fashion can be found not only in novelty but in the deliberate, careful act of making.
